Dental Services

Periodontal disease is the most common infectious disease of companion animals affecting 85% of adult pets. When left untreated, it can lead to oral pain, bad breath, tooth loss, and even systemic infections.

Veterinary dental care is one of the most important services provided at our hospital. During your pet's wellness examination  a thorough dental evaluation will be performed. The doctor will then recommended the appropriate dental health care plan for your pet.

Our hospital offers the latest in dental technology, including:

Charting

During the periodontal treatment the health of each tooth and gingiva is examined for abnormalities and is recorded in your animals medical record.

Ultrasonic scaling

An ultrasonic scaler is used to remove the tartar and plaque from the surfaces of each tooth above and below the gum line.

Polishing

Each tooth is then polished to smooth the tooth's surface after the ultrasonic scaling is complete.

Fluoride treatment

Though caries are rare in cats and dogs, a fluoride treatment is performed on each patient

Tooth extraction

Our highly trained veterinarians will perform an extraction when the periodontal disease has left the tooth unstable and in some cases of fractured or infected teeth. There are also specific oral diseases, such as stomatitis in cats, where full mouth extractions are necessary to help alleviate your pet’s pain.

Digital dental x-rays

Stapleton Veterinary Hospital is one of the few hospitals in the Denver metro area with digital dental x-ray capability. This capability reduces anesthesia time because digital x-rays do not require development and can be evaluated immediately by the veterinarian.

Bonding

In cases of fractured teeth that do not need to be extracted or teeth that have areas of lost enamel, our doctors can apply a bonded sealant.  This will seal exposed dentinal tubules, which will help prevent infections & will decrease pain.  It will also help prevent plaque retention since bonding will leave the tooth with a smooth surface.
